Mission Statement

The mission of the Religious School at Congregation B’nai Torah is to nurture proud, practicing Jewish young adults who possess the knowledge, skills, and sense of responsibility to carry their faith forward to future generations. Our goal is to instill a deep understanding of Jewish values, the Hebrew language, Torah, Jewish history—both its struggles and triumphs—and our enduring Covenant with God. We aim to inspire a passion for prayer, study, and acts of loving kindness, while also preparing our students to confidently navigate life as Jews in a predominantly non-Jewish suburban environment.

About our School

At Congregation B’nai Torah, we believe that the foundation of Jewish learning and the future of our community begins with our children. Our Religious School meets twice a month on Sundays starting at 9:00 a.m., offering students from Pre-K to 12th grade age-appropriate instruction in Jewish values, holidays, music, food, and crafts. This year, our focus is on Jewish values and the importance of Tzedakah, with lessons and activities centered around this theme. We celebrate all Jewish holidays together, and Rabbi Kane personally guides our pre-teen students through their Bar and Bat Mitzvah preparations. Student involvement in Friday night and Saturday morning services is highly encouraged, and many of our students proudly lead or participate in these services, showcasing their growing knowledge and skills. As a congregation, we kvell, or simply swell with pride, when our youth step up to lead and engage with our community. We are especially proud of their dedication—not only to their Jewish learning but also in volunteering at the synagogue and contributing to the Jewish Federation. These intelligent, compassionate young people are a source of pride for our entire community.

Children are the future of Jewish life and values.

I’ve had the pleasure of teaching religious school to children of all ages for many years, and it’s been an incredible journey to lead Congregation B’nai Torah through countless adventures as our community has continued to grow and thrive.

One of the most fulfilling parts of my work has been helping students prepare for their B’nai Mitzvahs, and supporting their growth from childhood through adulthood. My goal is to ensure that each child’s time at Congregation B’nai Torah is not only educational but also memorable and deeply connected to their Jewish identity.

In addition to leading the congregation and teaching, I find great joy in building strong, personal relationships with families in our community. Whether through holiday celebrations or lifelong learning opportunities, my goal is to foster a welcoming environment where every individual feels connected to their Jewish heritage and the B’nai Torah family. I look forward to many more years of shared learning, growth, and memorable moments with this wonderful congregation.

I am a proud Floridian with a deep passion for education. I earned my degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Maryland and went on to complete my Master’s in Early Childhood and Special Education from George Washington University in Washington, DC.

For 26 wonderful years, I taught Kindergarten, first, and second grade in Maryland, and even after retiring, I returned to the classroom as a substitute for an additional four years. My love for working with children led me to volunteer for over 20 years in the Volusia County school system.

For the past 8 years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching religious school, first at Temple Israel and now at Congregation B’nai Torah. I absolutely love the energy, curiosity, and joy that children bring, and I’m excited to continue helping them grow and connect with their Jewish heritage.
